Three
independent decentralized wastewater systems are planned for the community. In
each system, wastewater collected from buildings will be directed to a
underground pumping station, conveniently located in the center of a cluster of
neighborhoods (cells). The wastewater is then pumped and directed to a
treatment facility adjacent to a constructed wetlands located on the edge of
the community. The wastewater will go through the process of mechanical
filtration and UV disinfection to separate the solids and remove the bacteria.
The separated solids can be then used as fertilizer to be applied to the
surrounding agricultural fields. The liquid will be discharged to the adjacent
wetlands to be naturally treated by the wetlands through its embedded biological
and geological processes. The wastewater after the wetland treatment can then
be discharged to the nearby canals.
